Money Is The Problem | The Story Of Holy Man And Thief

Money Is The Problem | The Story Of Holy Man And Thief

The Holy Man And Villagers

Once a holy man lived in a deep, dark forest. He prayed and meditated a lot.

Many people would come to the forest and he would advise them on ways to deal with their problems. The pleased villages presented him with lot of money.

Greed For Money

After getting lots of money from villagers. The holy man became worried that someone might steal his money. He kept the money in a cloth bag and carried it under his arm all the time.

The Holy Man And Thief

Once a thief happened to pass by and saw the people offering money and gifts to the holy man. The Thief hatched a plan to loot his money.

He went to the holy man and said, "I respect you immensely and want to be your loyal follower."

The holy man was very happy that someone would be staying with him. So he readily agreed. All this while, the thief was eyeing the money and the gifts.

One day, taking advantage of the holy man's absence, the thief thoroughly searched his house, but failed to find any money.

The Thief Was Able To Steal The Money

The next day, the thief thief followed the holy man to the river. The holy man took off his clothes and stepped into the river. The moment he did this, the thief picked up his clothes and ran away. The holy man tried to chase him, but the thief was young and strong so he got away.

Money Is The Problem

The holy man was very sad and upset to lose all his money. But then he realized that his greed for money had taken him away from god.

He wondered "when the money was with me, I always remained worried. But now that the money has been stolen, I have nothing to worry about."

He realized that money had made him suffer. He now knew that it was better to stay without too much money, and be happy and peaceful. Now the holy man, began spending his time in praying to God again and donating the gifts and money he got, to the needy. He found more happiness in that.

The things people want most, cause them most sufferings.

The things people want most, cause them most sufferings.
We all know that human want is unlimited and no one can satisfied their want. If you are unsatisfied you will be suffering and cannot enjoy healthy life. If you want more you are greedy and ignorance.
People live in the sea of sufferings because of ignorance and greed. They are ignorant of the law of ‘Karma' and are greedy for the wrong kind of pleasures. They do things that are harmful to their bodies and peace of mind, so they cannot remain satisfied and thus cannot enjoy life, said Buddha.

People are like children who want more and more candies. When they can't get they are upset. If they get all the candies, they soon get tired of them and want something else. Although, they get a stomach-ache by eating many candies, they still want more. The things people want most, cause them most sufferings.

To end sufferings, one must cut off greed and ignorance.
Bhudhist call the state ‘Nirvana' in which all sufferings end. It is an everlasting state of great joy of peace. This is the ultimate goal of Buddhism.
To end sufferings, selfish desire must be removed. Just as a fire dies when no fuel is added, so unhappiness will end when the fuel of selfish desire is completely removed, there will be no suffering.

Whenever You Find A Problem That Needs Your Help. It Is Useless To Blame Upon Others Unnecessarily.

Whenever You Find A Problem That Needs Your Help. It Is Useless To Blame Upon Others Unnecessarily.
“Your moral responsibility as a human being is to help your fellow beings whenever they need your help. You must value the rights and interests of others and behave in a polite manner."

Once upon a time there was a small kingdom. Its ruler was a wise king. He did a lot to make the people of his kingdom prosperous.
Howevr, people were never satisfied. They always used to complain about lack of civic amenities.

One day the king ordered his men to place a boulder at the centre of a road. The king hid a pouch of coins under the boulder. Then, disgusting himself as a beggar, he watched the reaction of the people.

Many people passed by the boulder. A few travelers who came by dawn murmured, “What a disgusting rock, anyone could trip over a period thing like this in the dark." They walked off.
Then came some others who looked at the boulder and shook their heads. They too were amazed by the strange sight of the boulder on the road but passes by.

The next group of travellers said aloud, “Our king is inefficient. He can't even get his workers remove a boulder from the road."

A foreigner who had settled in the city recently uttered some really uncomplimentary words, “What a miserable state of affairs! I should never have migrated to this country. "

Then came a poor man who looked around as if he was looking for someone. He was upset on seeing the boulder in the middle of the road. He saw a beggar and said, “My dear friend, would you give me hand. Let us take this boulder to the side lest someone should trip over it." The beggar agreed. They both pushed the boulder to the side.

When they rolled the rock cover, there was the pouch under it. The man opened it and found plenty of money in it. There was also a small note from the King which said “To my most responsible subject with gratitude - The King ". The man was amazed. He said to the beggar, “You are lucky today as I am lucky. Half of this amount belongs to you because you were as responsible as I was in the eyes of the king. The beggar thanked the man but did not accept the money. The beggar was the King himself in disguise.

No one can escape death and unhappiness. If people expect only happiness in life, they will be disappointed

No one can escape death and unhappiness. If people expect only happiness in life, they will be disappointed
Mind is the ground and thoughts are seeds. Our faults are weeds. Pulling them out is like weeding a garden. The harvest is real and gives us lasting happiness.
People follow different religion. All religions take you on the right path. Paths are many but the ultimate destiny is one, that is God.

The Buddha said, “No one can escape death and unhappiness. If people expect only happiness in life, they will be disappointed. "

Once there was a woman named Kisagotami. Her first son had died. She was very sad. She roamed about the streets carrying the dead body. She asked for help to bring her son back to life. A kind and wise man took her to Buddha.
Gautama Buddha told her, “Fetch me a handful of mustard seeds. They must come from a family that has not known death and I will bring your child back to life." Kisagotami started off joyfully to get them.

She went from door to door in the whole village asking for the mustard seeds but everyone said, “I lost my father", “I lost my sister ". She could not find a single household that had not been visited by death. Finally Kisagotami returned to Buddha and said, “There is death in every family. Now Kisagotami understands that everyone dies. No one can escape death and unhappiness.

How to be successful in life

How to be successful in life
No matter how old you are, where you're from or what you do for a living, we all share something in common - a desire to be successful. Each person definition is different, however, as some may define success as being a loving and faithful spouse or a caring and responsible parent, while most people would equate success with wealth, fame and power.
We all want to achieve success so we could live a comfortable life - have a financial freedom, drive a nice car, and live in a beautiful house. However, although success can be achieved, it does not come easy.

1. Think Big

From Michelangelo Buonarroti, Great Renaissance Artist : “ The greater danger for most of us lies not in setting our aim too high and falling short; but in setting our aim too low, and achieving our mark."

2. Find what you love to do.

From Orprah Winfrey, Media Mogul : “ You know you are on the road to success if you would do your job and not be paid for it."

3. Learn how to balance life.

From Phil Knight, CEO of Nike Inc. : “ There is an immutable conflict at work in life and in business, a constant battle between peace and chaos. Neither can mastered, but can be influenced. How you go about that is the key to success. "

4. Do not be afraid of failure.

From Henry Ford, Founder of Ford Motors: “ Failure is simply the opportunity to begin again, this time more intelligently. "

5. Don't be afraid of introducing new ideas.

From Mark Twain, Famed Author : “ A person with new idea is a crank until the idea succeeds."
